This thing is HUGE. I didnt notice that the title of this product states the dimensions: 17.5×13.8 inches. Its much bigger than i had thought. But It’s really good nonetheless.

I am extremely happy with this purchase. As advertized it’s fast with plenty of memory & harddrive space, with a large, bright, clear screen.Great for work or play.I did plenty of research before deciding on this laptop & I can honestly say this has the most bang for the buck!would recommend.
The only complaint (if you would even call it that) would be the way Toshiba went about lighting up the base section or keybaord section of the laptop.I think it would have been more usefull too have the actual numbers & letters on the keys light up instead of the line(light)above the touch pad & the dvd controls.

I do wish the screen was larger and in color, but I got a really good deal through amazon pricewise and it is definitely worth what I paid, but not much more. Mine was supposed to be new, but it appears to be “gently used” even though it shipped from amazon.com directly.
I like the laptop appearance, it looks very nice. The detachable part is nice but I wish there was some sort of parent key so that your child couldn’t go detaching as they pleased. The touch screen is nice, especially considering in the future everything will be touch screens. There are many many activities…I am a little concerned he may find a few he likes and ignore others….but the variety is good also.
Overall I think it will be excellent for my nephew who will be 8 and has ADHD. Since he is very smart but has that lack of focus, these products work so well with holding his interest better. I also work with him but sometimes it can be frustrating and this is nice that he can learn on his own now. BUT…I can tell you though if I had got it when I was 8 I would have looked at my mom crosswise. Do NOT get this if you have an advanced gifted child because they will run through it in a manner of days and then be bored. Think of your child’s mental age and not physical age. it does lean a bit on the simplistic side….
It is an excellent learning tool for these fidgety hyperactive types who need to play and learn at the same time. I do not get my nephew video games; everything I get is educational and he does well with his grades now. Same with TV products. V Tech has really helped him turn around from being 5 years old and unable to read or count at all to getting a complicated math question the teacher put on the board that no one else could get. Thank you!

The second accessory I purchased with my new laptop was a cooling stand - after all, with all the work laptops are put through, and the high dollar amount of a quality system, you’d be foolish not to invest the small additional fee to keep your system cool and thus working smoothly. Three stars seems to be a bit harsh, but this isn’t, by all means, a perfect cooler.
Now let me add that I don’t bring the cooler with me when I travel, so how it affects battery life? I don’t know. Though I can’t imagine it being anything less than a drain.
Let’s get back to the product itself. For what the product is….a cooler….it does a fine job. It’s cool, quiet, and efficient. So if it does what it’s advertised to do well, why only three stars? I’m glad you asked! Budget, budget, budget, through and through. This looks, feels, and acts like a budget unit. From the cheap molded plastic to the hastily added and often failing rear leg. It also doesn’t support my laptop very well. I often find my self adjusting my computer’s position to try and get it to stabilize. I guess my final words are….if you’re looking for an affordable cooling system for your laptop, Belkin does make an adequate product for a fair price - just don’t expect much in the quality department.

It is working fine but not with every hard drive. I had a 300Gb Quantum that wouldn’t power up at all although it worked with every other hard drive I had at hand. I had other enclosures that powered up the mentioned hard drive without any issues.

In August, before going off to college, as many other college students have done in the past and continue to do, I went on a search to find a laptop for school. Although my school endorses Macs and Dells, I decided on an HP. My family has owned many HP’s in the past and from what I had read it sounded like a great laptop. Unfortunately, it was only great on paper. It freezes and I have had to erase the hard drive multiple times. And, the big problem, the battery that it comes with only lasts an hour. It is not a bad battery though, when HP was contacted, they confirmed that the battery that comes with the laptop is only supposed to last an hour. There is a battery that will last from 2.5 to 3 hours that you can purchase for $150, but 2.5 to 3 hours is a maximum estimate and that battery hangs below the computer, as they claim, giving your computer a nice slant. Who would market this type of a computer to college students? Would you really send your own kid off to college to attend lectures with a laptop battery that lasts a maximum of one hour?! I don’t care if a businessman, college student, or any type of student for that matter is using it. Selling a laptop with a battery life of one hour and not having that in the literature is not excusable. HP should be ashamed. They should also be ashamed by their incompetent call center workers who, when they don’t disconnect your calls and speak English clearly and know what they are talking about, talk down to you. One woman forgot to log my call and another said that she would call me back in an hour- it took her over 48 hours. I eventually had to resort to having my parents handle this issue which has yet to be satisfactorily resolved. At one point my mother had been on hold for 45 minutes. Now they are sending me the 2.5 to 3 hour battery free, and they suggested I keep that battery that lasts an hour so I can carry it around with me as I have 2 lectures in a row and need the battery to last a minimum of 3 hours, which we all know it won’t. How sad is that, even they know the battery won’t last that long. Unfortunately, in the end it is the college student who is at a disadvantage, as her parents have already shelled out nine hundred dollars on this HP laptop and then went out and got an HP desktop for the family. Yet, had they known that this laptop had such poor battery life, they would have 1) never purchased it to begin with and 2) kept this one and not purchased the desktop and gotten me a different laptop instead. Needless to say, this will be the last HP product I EVER buy.

This “netbook” basically has all the features any real notebook would have except a dual core processor. You get a decent sized hard drive, plenty of RAM (more than the Atom processor can use), discrete graphics, Vista, great battery life, Bluetooth, and lots of ports. The specs are such that you actually can use this netbook as your primary computer. There is no optical drive, which allows the netbook to stay small and light.
The N10J is kind of a niche product. If you were a typical netbook user (internet, word processing, etc.), you would probably want a lighter, cheaper netbook. If you were interested in discrete graphics, you would probably want a dual core processor and more screen resolution. So, what’s the point of a souped-up netbook?
As I see it, the N10J is a highly portable netbook/notebook uniquely suited for two purposes:
1. Playing moderately demanding games
2. Using an external monitor
In my case, I was looking for something that could do both. The N10J is one of the few netbooks with HDMI. While the Dell Mini 10 and the Samsung NC10 have this feature also, the specs and features are way better on the N10J, making it much more functional as a primary computer. The N10J doesn’t have the most amazing graphics card, but it actually compares well to pretty much all the other sub-15″ notebooks out there, especially for the price. I doubt it will run the latest games, but I find that it runs older games very well, even on high settings. I don’t have any recent games, but apparently it can run newer, moderately demanding games just fine.
Since I chose the N10J to be my primary computer, my biggest concern was trying to get by with an Atom processor. Overall, I find that while the Atom processor can be pretty slow, it is worth giving up the processing power for the size and price. The limitations can be annoying - Vista startup is horrible (~2 mins, down from 4+ mins), installing programs takes forever, and ripping mp3s in CDex using the processor intensive VBR algorithms is unbelievably slow. However, even though Atom is pretty weak, most “real” programs don’t ever use a huge portion of the processing capacity unless you really try. I actually have no problems with the processor as long as I avoid running more than about three large programs simultaneously. I wouldn’t recommend lots of video editing or extensive batch processing in Photoshop, but typical use of large programs really shouldn’t be a problem. Since coming out of sleep or hibernation is actually pretty fast, I generally avoid the slow startup altogether. So far, the limitations of the Atom processor haven’t been severe enough for me to bother downgrading to Windows XP or overclocking the processor as many N10J owners do.
If you are planning on using the N10J as your primary computer, I suggest you know a bit about controlling background processes. Since the Atom processor is not dual core, the background processes really can kill performance, so you need to know how to keep them under control. (You don’t have a backup core when a background process starts hogging resources.) I definitely recommend disabling the pre-installed Google Desktop and Norton Internet Security. Also, I added an $8 4GB SD card for ReadyBoost which helps a bit.
With an external monitor this is an excellent setup. You get the best of both worlds - a tiny computer and a huge screen. The performance of the Atom processor is good enough, unless you regularly do a lot of fairly processor intensive tasks. It’s probably even better if you downgrade to Windows XP and overclock the processor.

Great design. Gateway Laptops use a 3-prong power adapter. My previous laptop was a 2-prong Toshiba Laptop which I used the APC PNOTEPROC8 suppressor for years. Provides a “piece of mind” to prevent my laptop from getting fried during a power surge. California have risks of rolling blackouts and brownouts that can damage sensitive equipment. Product comes with a $75,000 guarantee against damage. Because this suppressor is plugged between the computer’s power cord the adapter and held tightly by a Velcro band (which I reinforce it with an additional small Velcro square), you can feel comfortable plugging directly into a wall outlet. I carried my to the Philippines and plugged into a 220 volt outlet and it worked flawlessly. Only complaint is the description on Amazon. The main description should include whether it is a 3-prong or 2-prong model. Another reviewer mistakenly ordered the wrong model because of this.

I’ve been using this with my HP Pavilion dv6000t for a couple weeks now. It does it’s job well. I haven’t had any problems with the laptop slipping off of the cooling pad.
My only gripes are that it’s made of foam, and not rubber. It gets dents from the bottom of the laptop. Also, I like to use my laptop with the battery taken out of it when it’s plugged in to lengthen the life of the battery, but it doesn’t sit as well on this pad because of the placement of the battery cavity. Although, I can’t blame Handstands for this, if the pad was made of rubber it would not be dented by the edges of the battery cavity or the laptop’s feet.
Bottom line: Good product for great price. If it was made of rubber, it would have received 5 stars.
